Our friendship group meets every week to learn new skills, practice English and make friends. Each session is very relaxed, and can be flexible based around the interests of those that take part. This means we always enjoy a wide variety of activities, such as baking, knitting, or simply having a conversation and getting to know each other better. At a recent session we shared some sweet treats and discussed our favourite recipes from around the world. We can’t wait to prepare these recipes during our next meet up!
The group is run by Maryam Bahoudashi (Third Country Nationals Caseworker, Coventry Refugee and Migrant Centre) and Ruth Burdett, (Volunteer Manager, Voluntary Action Coventry), who both work on the Integrate Coventry project. Maryam said:
“The weekly friendship groups are always a pleasure to be a part of. Getting the chance to meet new people, whilst learning new skills, is always something I look forward to. The group is a friendly and supportive space aimed at people with refugee status and other third country nationals, although it is open to all.”
The friendship group meets every Tuesday, 12pm-2pm, at the Harmony Family Hub in Coventry (Clifton St, Hillfields, Coventry CV1 5GR).
