About

Belgrade Theatre in Coventry became a Theatre of Sanctuary on 21 November 2017. Central to the Belgrade Theatre’s work is a desire to unleash the creativity in our communities. “Whilst continuing to build our longer term relationships with existing communities, we want to open our doors to newly-arriving communities to share their stories and build understanding. A theatre is a space for dialogue within the city and celebrating both our differences and our shared humanity.” Justine Themen, Deputy Artistic Director, Belgrade Theatre

What We Provide

We will be running weekly sessions on Tuesdays 11am-1pm. Our workshops have been devised in accordance with government guidelines on COVID-19 and can be delivered online or in a socially distanced way depending on what guidance requires.

About

“Voluntary Action Coventry exists to promote and support social action and community resilience in Coventry, strengthening communities, building capability and improving quality of life for residents in the city” VAC runs projects and programmes to tackle inequalities and disadvantage. Projects which relieve isolation, develop skills and confidence, break down barriers and encourage people to engage with their community and improve their life experiences and educational chances. VAC believes that the experience gained through volunteering can make a real difference to people’s lives. VAC also creates opportunities for people to have their voices heard about the issues that affect them, particularly around health. VAC engages with voluntary organisations across the City to provide services to help them to meet their needs, both individually and collectively. VAC is involved in local networks, partnership and collaborations to address disadvantages and inequalities.

What We Provide

VAC provides one to one support for people with leave to remain to look at volunteering as a way to develop their skills and confidence, gain experience and have a reference to put on job applications. We also provide a 6 – 8-week training workshops that enable people to explore confidence and communication, as well as identify and develop longer term goals and aspirations. These skills are valuable to people who want to volunteer, but also for those seeking employment, or making positive steps in their lives. We also contribute to Integrate Coventry by connecting with voluntary organisations, enabling them to develop and put helpful measures in place to offer positive volunteering opportunities to refugees. We have a workshop for voluntary organisations to help them develop processes and understand some of the issues affecting refugees in the City.
